A crucial section of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge was recently replaced. The problem: 800 double-crested cormorants refuse to leave the old 78-year-old bridge section. The protected birds have nested along the bridge for decades, and have no interest in moving to the new section. As a result, delays in demolishing the old section could cost taxpayers $33 million!
